HOBART’S new parking meters have stopped working today because of a suspected connectivity fault.
The Mercury understands an issue with Telstra is the cause but Hobart City Council is still investigating.
The Telstra fault is affecting all EFTPOS devices, ATMs and non-council parking meters too.
A Hobart City Council spokesman said unfortunately, because of an upstream issue with Telstra, there were major connectivity issues happening with parking meters across the CBD.
“This is affecting a number of meters, including those not operated by the City of Hobart.
“We have asked the provider to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
“Until that time we ask all road users to be considerate and stay in bays only up to the maximum time allowed.”
The timing of the fault could not be worse time for the council, which has come under fire for the rollout of the new machines.
