The mood around the halls of the Tasman was one of joy and happiness after the water-front luxury hotel woke up to the news of being named one of the best hotels in the world.
“This is a huge accolade — we’re on the world stage,” The Tasman beverage manager Michael Fisher said.
Speaking after the hotel was named number 49 in The world’s 50 Best Hotels list in London on Tuesday night, he said the result was the work of every staff member, guest, supplier and partner of the hotel.
“The mood around the hotel this morning has been of joy and happiness,” he said.
Mr Fisher has been at The Tasman since it opened in 2021.
“It’s about the staff, it’s about the experience and what people receive when they come here,” Mr Fisher said.
“The beautifully appointed rooms the way they are greeted when they arrive and even when they’re leaving.
“World-class restaurants and bars certainly help add that to that experience.”
Mr Fisher said The Tasman was a world-class hotel, and its offering of bespoke experiences and the location contributed to its global recognition by the World’s 50 Best Hotels 2024.
It was only one of two Australian hotels to be recognised in the awards.
Leaders in the Tasmanian tourism industry gathered at The Tasman to celebrate its inclusion on the list.
Tourism Tasmania acting CEO Vanessa Pinto said The Tasman “epitomises” the exceptional hotel and hospitality experience in Tasmania.
“It’s not just about the wonderful exceptional quality that you get here in Tasmania, but it’s about the people as well,” she said.
“The warmth of Tasmanians themselves, the dedication and the passion of the operators like the Tasman and the support of the community that absolutely set us apart.”

“I would like to express my gratitude to The World’s 50 Best judging panel for the acknowledgment and, of course, thank our amazing team who offer the exceptional service every day that puts The Tasman a cut above the rest.”
