A MAJORITY of Hobart City Council elected members have penned an open letter to Brian Corr urging him to delay the height limits elector poll until after the homeless crisis is resolved.
The letter, signed by aldermen Simon Behrakis, Tanya Denison, Marti Zucco, Damon Thomas, Peter Sexton and councillors Holly Ewin and Zelinda Sherlock, requested the Hobart Not Highrise president postpone the poll so the council, state and federal governments and other stakeholders could give the issue a single-minded focus.

“The freeing up of the $200,000 that is currently earmarked in the budget to facilitate the plebiscite would go a long way to increasing our options for solutions to assist those currently sleeping rough in Hobart,” it read.
Council general manager Nick Heath has engaged the Tasmanian Electoral Commission to conduct the poll, which must be held within 60 days of May 15.
Mr Corr responded to the letter and said the poll would not be needed if the Leigh Woolley report was brought back to council within the next 10 days and was approved and sent to the Tasmanian Planning Commission.
“Hobart Not Highrise has tried everything, unsuccessfully,” he said.
“The only option left to residents is the poll.”
