HOBART City Council’s general manager has announced he will be stepping down from his role next year.

Nick Heath has been in the top spot since 2008 and been employed at the capital city council for more than 30 years.

Mr Heath said the time was right to move on from the organisation and he would not be seeking an extension of his contract when it ends on March 31, 2021.

“It has been a privilege and an honour to serve the community of Hobart as an employee of the City of Hobart,” he said.

“It is the right time for me to move on both personally and, more importantly, for the council.

“The challenges our community and our organisation face as we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic requires the council to determine the leadership style and skills it needs in order to address this critical time in our history.

“My decision gives the council this opportunity.”

Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds thanked Mr Heath for his contribution to the community.

“On behalf of the council, I thank Nick for his commitment to working in the best interest of, and providing for, the community, and congratulate him on his outstanding career serving the city of Hobart during the past 30 years,” she said.

“He has been instrumental in implementing the strategies and policies of this and previous councils and is highly respected by elected members and his colleagues.

“Nick’s experience and leadership will be missed, but we wish him all the very best.”

Mr Heath’s final day will be April 9, 2021 and council will search nationally for his replacement.
