"It's gridlock": The commuters ditching the car to get to work

HOW and why people travel to Hobart’s city centre is the subject of a new survey looking towards transport options of the future.

Bicycle Network Tasmania public affairs manager Alison Hetherington said the Heading to Hobart research would include interviews with city businesses to find out what transport options people wanted to use.

“We are asking people how they get into Hobart, what they do in the city and what other transport options they’d like to see, like separated cycleways,” Ms Hetherington said.

“Research elsewhere has found that businesses typically underestimate the numbers of people who ride, walk or catch public transport to get to shops and services.”

The study will be conducted by two University of Tasmania school of business and economics interns.

The survey will be live for the next three weeks via surveymonkey.com/r/headingtohobart
