The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

A young man “so full of life” and with “a heart of gold” has been remembered after he was killed in a fatal crash on Thursday night.

Harry Tucker lost his life after the Honda motorcycle he was riding collided with a Volkswagen station wagon on Home Point Parade in Launceston about 6.20pm.

Medical assistance was provided to Mr Tucker at the scene but he was unable to be saved.

Good mate Brenton Adams said the loss of Mr Tucker “has hit me so goddamn hard”.

“It’s actually so unbelievable, he was such a legend of a bloke gone way too soon,” Mr Adams said.

“I literally cannot believe he is gone. Out of everyone I’ve met this guy really didn’t deserve this. So full of life, he really had a heart of gold.”

Mr Tucker had a “massive passion” for cars and motorbikes and loved spending time with his mates having a laugh.

The 21-year old grew up in Huonville before moving to Launceston, where he became close with Mr Adams.

“Harry was a loving, caring and respectful gentleman, who always put others first before himself,” he said.

“Harry made a massive impact on his family, friends and everyone around him and he will be missed dearly by many.”

Mr Adams has launched a GoFundMe page to help Mr Tucker’s family cover the costs of a funeral.

“It’s already sad he’s gone, I just wanted to relieve some stress.”

Launceston Police Detective Inspector Craig Fox said police had attempted to intercept the motorcycle Mr Tucker was riding due to speeding, but it’s believed they’d given up the chase before the crash occurred.

“Initial investigations suggest that police had disengaged their attempt to intercept the rider, however, the crash is being investigated,” Det – Insp. Fox said.

“Professional Standards are attending the scene co-ordinating the response with Crash Investigation Services to fully determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.”

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who may have dashcam footage of the blue Honda motorcycle in the lead up to the crash is urged to contact Tasmania Police on 131 444.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Mr Tucker’s death is the 15th on Tasmanian roads so far this year.
