Summer is coming and it’s time for the Taste: early-bird tickets are on sale for Hobart’s Taste
of Summer — billed as the biggest and best food and wine festival in Tasmania.
After being cancelled last year due to Covid-19, this year’s Taste will be the first run by the new operators who have taken over from Hobart City Council.
Taste of Summer chair Jarrod Nation said the event would be limited to 5000 people at a time.
“Early-bird tickets go on sale today at tasteofsummer.com.au,” he said.
“It is the most affordable ticket in town, tickets are $12.50 plus booking fees and there’s limited supply.
“People can turn up at lunchtime and they can stay till 11pm. They can access the site when it suits them. They can turn up at two o’clock, 10 o’clock, one o’clock, that really is up to them.
“We’re showcasing the best of Tasmanian drinks, food and of course, a pure Tasmanian entertainment program. I think people will embrace it. It’s a fresh, new look.”
Full-price tickets are $15 and children enter for free. Multi-day passes are not being offered.
Premier Peter Gutwein said the Taste was an iconic event for Hobart.
“This is a fantastic day, the launch of this fantastic festival, the Taste of Summer, it’s going to provide Tasmanians with the opportunity once again to partake in the very best food and wine that is provided by so many Tasmania producers,” he said.
Mr Nation said festival organisers were working closely with the government as Covid-related restrictions and border arrangements changed.
Minister for Hospitality and Events Sarah Courtney said showcasing the best the state had to offer was a great opportunity for participants.
“We know for small producers of food, wine, beer and cider that it has been a tough couple of years with not having visitors from interstate,” she said.
“This will provide the opportunity for these companies to be able to showcase their amazing projects to Tasmanians.
“And, importantly, it’s a great way for us to be able to reactivate the Hobart waterfront, welcome summer and also ensure that we’re getting out and about the Covid-safe way.”
