Got an hour-long lunch break and are looking for something to do?

The Festival of Voices free lunchtime concert series at St David’s Cathedral is entering its second week.

Choirs from around Australia have been filling out the high-ceiling church since the start of the festival on June 28.

Festival of Voices Associate Choral Producer Aaron Powell said the free concerts featured plenty of variety.

“The number of the people in each choir has been anything from six to 50,” Mr Powell said.

“Most of the choirs mixed it between upbeat and ballads, and every time of music you can imagine.”

On Monday, it was a double bill at the St David’s Cathedral of the Brisbane Birralee Voices and Somerville Singers, both from Queensland, performing.

Overall, Mr Powell said this year’s Festival of Voices had been one of its most successful in terms of attendance.

“Over the weekend, even with the rain, we had huge crowds up at the Female Factory for a concert called Hold Me Up and also at the Longley Hotel at the Wolf Brothers sing-alone.

“Macy Gray also sold out on Wednesday night. Everyone seems to be having a great time.

Mr Powell said there were multiple factors behind this year’s triumphs.

“I think we’ve developed a reputation for producing really great quality events, and the sing-alone events are selling particularly well; people like to get out and participate.

“It could also be because lots of festivals around the state and the country are cancelling; maybe people thought that they better get in and support the festival.”

Tickets for the rest of the events are available on the Festival Of Voices website.
