Woman cuaght nearly five times the limit

Police have charged a 37-year-old woman from Seven Mile Beach with several drink driving offences.

Following information received from multiple members of the public, police intercepted the woman last night.

She has been charged with high-range drink driving, drive under the influence of intoxicating liquor, and resist arrest after she returned a breath analysis reading of 0.229.

The woman will appear before the Court at a later date, and has been disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Rescue mission for stranded hiker

Update: The bushwalker stranded in the Lake Rhona area has been safely extracted from the area and flown to Hobart.

Earlier: A search and rescue operation is underway to extract a stranded bushwalker from the Lake Rhona area.

“Search and rescue ground crews are currently in the Lake Rhona area, in contact with a bushwalker who has been stranded since yesterday due to the rising lake,” Senior Constable Callum Herbert said.

“The male bushwalker, aged in his 30s, commenced a walk in the area on Saturday, and was due to return yesterday at midday. When he didn’t return, a concern for welfare was reported to police.

“The man, who is equipped with food, clothing, and a tent, was located this morning by a Search and Rescue ground crew, on the opposite side of a rising river to the man.

“Ground crews are in contact with the man and he will be extracted when the weather permits for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to safely fly in the area.”

Police investigate Launceston stabbing

Police are investigating an incident between two youths in Launceston yesterday which resulted in one receiving a non-life-threatening stab wound.

At 1.50pm, police responded to an altercation involving a group of youths on St John St.

As a result of the altercation, one youth received a stab wound to his shoulder. He was transported to the Launceston General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Immediate assistance from members of the public resulted in the arrest of the offending youth, who was found in possession of a knife.

Police believe this was a targeted incident, as the parties involved were known to each other.

Man to face court over multiple burglaries

Tasmania Police is urging business owners to remain vigilant with their security after a 20-year-old man was charged for multiple burglaries in the Hobart CBD.

The young man allegedly broke into seven separate businesses in the Collins St area, stealing a quantity of money on Sunday May 1.

He has been detained in custody after being identified through high-quality CCTV in the area by members of the public.

The man was due to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court facing eight counts of burglary and stealing on Tuesday.

$40,000 worth of cocaine seized, Northern Midlands

Two people have been charged with trafficking after $40,000 worth of cocaine was seized by police during a traffic interception in the Northern Midlands on Thursday night.

At around 11:20pm Tasmania Police intercepted an unregistered vehicle being driven by a 27-year-old man from New Norfolk.

After the man returned a positive result for drugs in a random breath test the Drug Dog Detection Unit searched the vehicle and found approximately 112g of cocaine.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle were arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance along with minor drug offences.

The pair were bailed to appear at the Launceston Magistrates Court on Wednesday 29 June 2022.

Aggravated burglary, Pelverata

Four people have been arrested following an alleged aggravated burglary at a Pelverata property in south east Tasmania early Thursday morning.

Police from Hobart were called to the unoccupied Pelverata Rd address around 5:25am in response to a call that reported multiple people were acting suspicious around the premises.

Further officers from Kingston were called to the scene where four offenders and a vehicle of interest were found shortly after.

A 21-year-old Huonville man, 26-year-old Port Huon woman, 33-year-old Claremont man and a 31-year-old Goodwood man were each charged with aggravated burglary and stealing and were bailed to appear in court at a later date.
