Highlights of this year’s budget:

  • $198m to the health system to meet demand in major hospitals and open more beds.
  • $120m to bring down the elective surgery waiting list.
  • $52m to strengthen palliative and community health care.
  • $50m for phases one and two of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Review.
  • $41m to fund additional paramedics including two new crews in Hobart and Launceston.
  • $37.6m for an extra 100 TasTAFE teachers.
  • $30.5m for the cost of extending Tasmania’s hotel quarantine program.
  • $26m to support mental health services.

Infrastruction spend:

  • Roads and bridges: $370.6 million (44 per cent)
  • Hospitals and health: $110.7 million (13 per cent)
  • Human services and housing: $91.4 million (11 per cent)
  • Law and order: $84.1 million (10 per cent)
  • Schools, education and skills: $69.3 million (8 per cent)
  • Tourism, recreation and culture: $56.1 million (6.8 per cent)
  • Information and communication technology: $36.7 million (4.4 per cent)

Highlights by the regions:

South:

  • $149m for the Greater Hobart Traffic Solution.
  • $110m for the Royal Hobart Hospital stage 2 redevelopment
  • $60m for the Algona Road Interchange and to duplicate the Kingston bypass.
  • $15.1m for the redevelopment of Cambridge High School.
  • $50m for a new years 7-12 Brighton High School
  • $20m towards the revitalisation of Cosgrove High School.
  • $27.8m for state road upgrades.
  • $55.5m to finish the $85m Southern Remand Centre.
  • $16.8m for Ogilvie and New Town Highs
  • $10.3m for the new Glenorchy Ambulance Station
  • $6m to upgrade Blundstone Arena.

North:

  • $66.5m towards the redevelopment of the Launceston General Hospital.
  • $66.4m for the Tamar Valley Traffic Vision.
  • $57.2m towards the $270m Northern Regional Prison.
  • $27m for state road upgrades.
  • $23.8m for a new primary school in Legana.
  • $11m to redevelop Exeter High School
  • $9m for ambulance vehicles and equipment.
  • $8m for Tamar River dredging and estuary governance.
  • $1.2m towards developing Ben Lomond as a year-round destination.

North-west:

  • $40m for the new Burnie court complex.
  • $36.4m for state road upgrades.
  • $20m towards the $40m North-West Regional Hospital mental health precinct.
  • $15.5m for a new purpose-built north-west support school.
  • $10m for Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area track upgrades.
  • $12.2m to complete the 420m redevelopment of Penguin District School.
  • $4.6m as part of the final stage of the redevelopment of Devonport High School.
  • $2.6m for wards upgrades and beds at the NWRH.
  • $8m for operation and staffing of the NWRH linear accelerator.
  • $10.3m for the new Burnie ambulance station.
  • $1m for Hobart to King Island flight subsidies.
