BIG Hill Rd between Lefroy and Bridport roads has been re-opened as firefighters in the state’s North continue to battle a bushfire.

Beachford Rd between Bridport Rd and Lefroy was shut by police about 6pm on Wednesday as thick smoke made driving conditions difficult.

Tasmania Fire Service reported no immediate threat to people or property but noted “fire under these conditions can be difficult to control”as the fire burned across 45ha.

Meanwhile, the bushfire on Bruny Island, which has destroyed at least one property and some sheds, has been contained as favourable weather conditions helped firefighters yesterday.

All areas of Bruny Island are accessible, except for Conleys Point Rd. Cloudy Bay and the camping areas are now safe to visit.

Fire crews are also attending a boat fire at Cornwall on the East Coast.
