A MUCH loved, small town festival celebrating Tasmanian produce, kooky costumes and winter rituals has announced its comeback for 2021.
The Huon Valley Mid-Winter Festival will glow brightly through the harsh Tassie weather in July, but only 400 tickets will be released in keeping with their COVID-safe capacity.
“In the depths of winter we return to shout down the cold with fire and folklore,” a Facebook post from the event organisers read.
“A Mid-Winter of old, back at our festival home – the Apple Shed.”
The announcement has followed last year’s digital festival, which saw apple cider and other tasty Huon Valley treats delivered to viewers at home as they viewed musical performances and tuned in for the fiery Burning Man display.
Festival director Sam Reid looked forward to keeping the festival traditions alive.
“Last year we kept the festival going when Melbourne went into lockdown and we had a lot of people watching online, it went to I think 50 countries,” Mr Reid said.
“We’re excited to do it again on a small scale and certainly have some of our closest friends and community back at the shed.
“You can’t take this for granted when you see that Blues Fest has just been cancelled today.”
He said the festival so far planned a night just for locals and regulars on July 16 and a broader celebration on July 17.
The event will as usual take place at Willie Smith’s Apple Shed, Grove.
More festival details will be announced soon.
