Feedback wanted on Ogilvie, New Town and Elizabeth College partnership

CAN secondary schooling options in Hobart be improved? The state government wants your view.

Do our schools need NAPLAN?

THE state government wants public input on how secondary schooling should be delivered in Hobart.

Under the Hobart City Partner Schools scheme between Ogilvie High School, New Town High School and Elizabeth College, students are able to attend coeducational classes at either high school, and study year 11 and 12 subjects at any of the three campuses.

Education Minister Jeremy Rockliff said the government was seeking community feedback on the scheme.

“Through this consultation we want to know what are important attributes for the model of public secondary education in Hobart and whether there is community support for increasing coeducational opportunities at Ogilvie and New Town,” Mr Rockliff said.

The consultation follows a public campaign by the Hobart High Community group for a new coeducational high school.

The State Government allocated $300,000 for a report into whether Hobart needs a new high school, however the Education Department has refused to release the report.

Shadow Education Minister Josh Willie said the government should release the report to give parents the full picture on secondary school options for Hobart.

“Parents have the right to know the full background before helping determine the educational future of their children,” Mr Willie said.
