Family of Latrobe crash victim Graham Wells appeals for drivers to take extra care on roads

The family of a Latrobe grandfather who died in a crash on Saturday have made an appeal to other drivers as they pay tribute to their father and uncle.

THE family of a Latrobe grandfather who died in a car crash on Saturday has urged motorists to drive carefully in wet conditions.

Graham Wells, 68, died in a head-on crash on the Bass Highway not far from the House of Anvers chocolate factory.

“On Saturday 22/10/2022 God suddenly decided he wanted you (Graham Wells) as one of his angels,” his daughter Karlee Anderson and niece Barb Rodgers said.

“Known as ‘uncle grub’ to his family in New Zealand and the Gold Coast. He was also a poppy, father, brother, uncle, partner and stepfather.

Latrobe man Graham Wells died in a car crash on October 22.

Ms Anderson said her father had never had an “at fault” car accident.

Tasmania Police believe heavy rain in the areas at the time of Mr Wells’ death may have contributed to the crash.

“So please here’s a message to the rest of Tasmania from the family: Please, please drive with extra care especially in bad weather conditions, because you never know if an unexpected tragedy will happen,” Ms Anderson said.

Police reported that a 23-year-old woman and her 10-month old infant in the other car received medical treatment at the scene of the crash.

”Graham’s family send their love to the occupants in the other vehicle and hope they are OK,” Ms Anderson said.

Ms Anderson and Ms Rodgers also paid tribute to their dad and uncle.

“We hope you are at peace now and with your parents and family,” they said.

“We know you will always be watching over us. You will be dearly missed but your memory will live forever. As you always said “Love you, god bless”.

“Love always Karlee and Barb.”
