Fake fundraising page launched after the death of Reid Ludwig

Scammers have launched a fake page pretending to raise money for the funeral of fatal stabbing victim Reid Ludwig.

Stabbing in Blackmans Bay

HEARTLESS scammers have tried to cash in on the tragic death of Taroona father Reid Ludwig.

A fake online fundraising page appeared in Mr Ludwig’s mother’s name less than 24 hours after the 41-year-old was fatally stabbed in front of his family at a Blackmans Bay service station on Sunday.

The GoGetFunding page, titled Reid William Ludwig Funeral Fund, featured a photo of Mr Ludwig with his son and had a donation target of $5000.

Late on Monday a request was granted to stop the campaign, but not before $200 had been given to the cause.

A close friend of Mr Ludwig confirmed to the Mercury the page was “not legit”.

The person behind the cruel campaign also made a fake Facebook profile pretending to be Mr Ludwig’s mother.

They then posted the donation link on at least one personal tribute to Mr Ludwig.

That profile and comment were later deleted.

REID LUDWIG REMEMBERED AS A “FUN LOVING YOUNG MAN”

Another page on GoFundMe, titled Reid Ludwig’s Family Campaign, was also shut down. It is not known if it was genuine.

The campaign had a target of $25,000 but no donations were made before it was closed.

Police said anyone who is considering donating to any fundraising page should be cautious and always check to verify the cause is legitimate.
