Champion Tasmanian golfer Mat Goggin has paid tribute to the resilience and effort of a small team of true believers, after declaring the state’s newest 18-hole course at Seven Mile Beach open for play.
Goggin said the spectacular course’s successful development had been a long and difficult road, which could be traced back more than 5000 days.
“That’s how long it’s been since I asked Michael Clayton from CDP to come to Hobart and take a walk with me across a stretch of land I believed could become something extraordinary— a world-class golf destination that would stand proudly on the global stage,” Goggin wrote on the 7 Mile Golf social media account.
“And now, here we are. Thursday marks the first official day of preview play. The course is exceptional.
“But this moment is about more than the course. It’s about delivering an experience that lives up to the vision we’ve carried all these years.
“I couldn’t be prouder of our team that’s brought us to this point. Their belief, their effort, and their resilience have been nothing short of inspiring. And while we’ve come a long way, we know this is just the beginning.”
Goggin last year told the Mercury he remembered when the current site was nothing but forest and dense scrub, with designers never imagining the course would eventually offer players views of kunanyi/Mt Wellington, Spectacle Island, and the sparkling waters of Tiger Head Bay.
