Former Attorney-General Elise Archer has abandoned her bid to re-enter politics just 24 hours after announcing her return.
Ms Archer’s husband Dale Archer announced she would not be continuing with her campaign.
“Reluctantly I must advise my wife Elise Archer will not be proceeding with nominating for election as an independent candidate for Clark at the March state election,” he said in a statement.
“Unfortunately, a health circumstance has arisen which will prevent Elise from being able to continue with her campaign.
“She would like to express her sincere thanks to all her supporters who have encouraged her to re-enter public life.
”Elise’s health and well being must take absolute priority at this time.
“Due to the circumstances I must request the public and media respect our privacy.
“We will not be making any further comment.”
Ms Archer left the Liberal Party and quit the parliament last year after private WhatsApp messages were leaked in which she criticised victim-survivors of child sexual abuse.
Concerns were expressed for Ms Archer’s welfare after an appearance on ABC Radio on Thursday morning in which she did not sound her normal self.
“I had a numb mouth yesterday and my mouth is a little bit dry today, so if I sound a bit different, that’s all. I am well rested.”
