Tasman Peninsula dog rescue

Amazing footage has emerged of the sea-borne rescue of a lost dog stranded for a week on an isolated cliff on the Tasman Peninsula.

Two-year-old staffy Cloud disappeared from his owner’s Saltwater River property on Saturday, March 9.

A tip-off to the RSPCA from a fisherman with the co-ordinates to an isolated cliff off the Tasman Peninsula was passed on to the Tasman Council, which then contacted the dog’s owner, Jimmy Wilson.

Emma Stacey, a friend of Cloud’s owner, captured the moments the plucky pooch was brought to safety.

She said it was “a very emotional ordeal for all involved”.

“You could just see the relief on his face, he knew we were there to save him,” Ms Stacey said.

“After getting the call from the council, we just jumped in the boat and headed around to the cliff where we saw Cloud up there.

“My friends Jimmy and Rose jumped in the water and swam to the island rock where he was stuck.

“He went missing last Saturday and we found him seven days later, so we think he probably spent seven days there.

“He was very thirsty and all skin and bones when we found him — but still very happy to see us.

“When he got home he guzzled down loads of water and food. We were all very emotional but so pleased we found him safe.”

Mrs Stacey said Cloud had since been nursed back to health and was back to his playful self.
