Developers behind plans for a lush new apartment complex in Sandy Bay say they’ll give the entire lot a makeover and transform it from an “urban weedscape”, if the development gets approved.
A development application has been lodged 47 Maning Ave for a two-building apartment complex with 11 dwellings comprising nine three-bedroom units and two two-bedroom units.
Each building would be three storeys high, and both will have an enclosed garage on the ground floor, providing two spaces for each apartment.
The developers hope the buildings will complement their surroundings and improve the area, which is currently vacant.
In the planning report for the project, a town planner from Tract Consultants said if the build went ahead, developers would revitalise the 4649 square metre area.
They said in its current state, the lot was full of introduced vegetation and had other problems.
“The site is characterised as an ‘urban weedscape’ which is currently in a degraded condition,” the planner said.
“There is limited native vegetation present, however there is a proliferation of introduced and invasive species.
“The waterway that runs through the site has poor habitat quality owing to the invasive species, stormwater run-off and sediment which has disrupted its ecological integrity.”
Representations on the proposed development can be made until July 20.
