Deadline looms as thousands of $100 Eat Local, Stay Local vouchers unclaimed
Time is running out for tens of thousands of Tasmanians to claim their $100 tourism vouchers as the November 30 deadline looms. HOW TO CLAIM
More than 40,000 Tasmanians have just two weeks to use their $100 Eat Local, Stay Local voucher on a meal, accommodation or tourism experience.
There were 58,000 Eat Local, Stay Local vouchers issued in September to Tasmanians who registered for the scheme which must be used by November 30.
The government says more than 15,000 voucher claims have already been paid with the economic impact totalling $6.77m.
Tourism, Events and Hospitality Minister, Jane Howlett, said Eat Local, Stay Local was giving Tasmania’s tourism and hospitality industry a valuable boost while also helping with the cost of going out for families.
“I’ve had amazing feedback from both voucher recipients and businesses on this program,” she said.
“Operators have benefited from an extra boost in patronage and Tasmanians have been given an incentive to spend in our visitor economy.
“For every dollar spent in the state’s tourism and hospitality sector, another 83 cents is generated in Tasmania’s economy.”
Hospitality Tasmania CEO Steve Old said the scheme was a winner.
“Eat Local, Stay Local has delivered exactly what our sector needs – people through the doors, regional spending, and real support for operators working hard during shoulder season,” he said.
“When locals get out and enjoy what’s on offer, everyone wins.”
Voucher claims can be lodged until Friday, January 16 next year but the activities or stays need to be done by November 30, 2025.
