Daylight saving time: Tasmania makes the jump forward at 2am on Sunday

Tasmania will stay a little lighter for a little longer on Sunday night thanks to Sunday morning’s daylight saving switch.

These are the strict new rules for summer in NSW

TASMANIANS might feel they get some extra sunlight on Sunday, thanks to the switch to daylight saving.

Locals who remembered to check their calendars on the first weekend of October will set their alarm clocks, watches and devices forward by one hour.

The trade-off in losing one hour of sleep is gaining an extra hour of afternoon sunshine in the warmer months.

Queensland, Western Australia and Northern Territory have kept their clocks ticking along as per usual, but all other Australian states and territories make the jump forward in time at 2am.

The move comes just over half way between the winter and summer solstices, with days continuing to stretch until the longest day of the year on December 21.

Daylight saving will come to an end at 3am April 4, 2021.
