A man who murdered his estranged wife on Christmas Day in 2021 has again had his sentencing delayed.

Darren Mark Wake, 62, appeared in the Supreme Court in Hobart on Friday morning for a brief hearing before Justice Helen Wood.

Wake pleaded guilty to murder of 52-year-old midwife Rachel Anne Wake, 10 months after the fatal stabbing inside her Mornington home, and has been in custody since the day of the attack.

During Friday’s mention hearing, Justice Wood said while she wanted to expedite the matter, she must balance that with the need to be “just and reasonable”.

Last month, Wake’s lawyer, Fabiano Cangelosi, argued his client deserved “as short a non-parole period as possible” due to remorse and a lack of a relevant prior criminal history.

Wake us due to appear in court again next Friday for sentencing submissions.
