Wearing a tiny “my first Christmas” hat and teething on a bauble, it’s hard not to ‘aw’ at the rosy cheeks and wide eyes of West Launceston baby, Leon, the cutest Christmas baby of 2022 as voted by Mercury readers.
Leon was born on the 26th June 2022 and celebrated his first Christmas with family. He is the first baby for mum, Hannah Dornauf who said this Christmas was a low key affair but the family “made it special” for baby Leon who was spoiled with gifts.
“He loves his Jolly Jumper that he got and he got a few interactive toys, he loves to look at the colours that come across them,” she said.
Among Leon’s gifts were a pair of baby earmuffs so he could attend the local New Year’s Eve fireworks show.
On being a first-time mum Miss Dornauf said the last six months with Leon have been great.
“He makes it really easy, he’s such a calm little baby.”

Miracle baby, home for Christmas
Christmas has come early for a Gagebrook family who were able to bring their newborn baby home after a 92-day stay in NPICU.
Little miracle Andrew was born 28 weeks premature in September, weighing just 610g and measuring 30cm in length. After more than three months in hospital enduring blood transfusions, a hernia operation and stubborn bilirubin levels Andrew was finally able to go home with mum Chloe Daniels and dad Iain Mather.
Miss Daniels said the couple was overwhelmed when the nurses told them the good news.
“I cried, I didn’t think the day would ever come that we got to take him home,” Miss Daniels said.
Andrew has settled into home life well, he now weighs in at a healthy 2.9kg with both mum and dad experiencing the trials and tribulations of being first time parents.
“It was daunting at first but now we’ve got into a routine, it’s good,” Miss Daniel said.
