A LIST of Tasmania’s top tourism experiences, based on the reviews of local travellers who got out and about during the Make Yourself at Home campaign has been released.
Cruises, wildlife experiences, wine tours and some more quirky experiences topped Tourism Industry Council Tasmania’s list.

Tourism Industry Council Tasmania CEO Luke Martin said the results gave a fascinating insight into what Tasmanian travel makers have been enjoying since intrastate travel restrictions were lifted in June.
“Amazingly, Tasmanian holiday makers have posted over 20,000 online reviews and ratings about Tasmanian tourism experiences while travelling around the State over the past few months,” Mr Martin said.
‘It’s clear many Tasmanians have used this period as an opportunity to tick off their Tassie bucket list of tours, experiences, and attractions in all corners of the state.”
Mr Martin said it wasn’t totally surprising that the top rated operator in Southern Tasmania over the past few months was Pennicott Wilderness Journeys.
“The running joke in the industry is that Rob Pennicott is the whale-whisperer, and has trained his whales to be such a feature of his tours over recent months,” he said.
“It is fantastic to see so many Tasmanians enjoying Rob’s tours and appreciating why this business has become such an acclaimed icon of our tourism industry.”
A less well-known and reasonably new experience, Evolo Room Escape in Campbell St, Hobart, also made the list.
Lauren Scott and Nick Rose brought real-life room escapes to Tasmania four years ago and are about to open a new business in Moonah.
“Escape rooms are really big internationally and came to Australia in 2014. We ourselves have played 90 rooms around the world,” Ms Scott said.
“Some people might think the term escape room sounds scary but it is a fun, social experience and we have had thousands of groups through since we opened in Hobart.”
Visitors are put in a room with teammates and are given have 60 minutes to figure out how to solve their way out. The puzzles in the room might be physical, mental or lateral.
In Tasmania’s North West, another cruise experience, Leven River Cruises, was the top-rated visitor experience, ahead of the World Heritage Cruises on the Gordon River.
Swinging Gate Vineyard came out on top in the north, just ahead of Tamar Valley Wine Tours and on the East Coast, St Helen’s Serpentarium Wildlife Park came out on top.
