An American gossip magazine has made an 11,000km blooper, mistakenly placing Tasmania’s beloved Cradle Mountain in the wilds of Africa.

The magazine lifted images of a recent holiday taken by the Irwin family for its website.

It includes shots of the family in front of a mist-shrouded Cradle Mountain, with Dove Lake in the background.

“Bindi Irwin is spending quality time with her family in Tanzania,” the magazine gushes.

“The Australian TV personality, 25, shared a carousel of photos on Instagram from a family vacation in the East African country, tagging the resort where they stayed, Cradle Mountain Lodge, in the last photo.”

Deputy Premier Michael Ferguson said People Magazine’s mix up was unfortunate.

“I’m sorry that People Magazine haven’t recently been to Tasmania, like the Irwins have,” he said.

“We’re so pleased for their time here in our state. I think that People Magazine might I want to run a second column about how good it is here in Tassie, best island on earth.”

Mr Ferguson said he doubted it would harm tourism.

“It only stimulates conversation only makes more people look into the truth of the matter and fall in love with our state just like we have here in Tasmania.”
