GUESTS staying at Cradle Mountain Lodge over the weekend were shocked to see the region covered with snow on Sunday morning, as falls down to 600m were recorded across the state.

Spring may have arrived but those staying in the area woke to a winter wonderland, duty manager Sagar Dhakal said.

“They (the guests) were very surprised because they got to witness all the seasons that we get here in Cradle Mountain,” Mr Dhakal said.

“It was raining and snowing and we had a bit of sun as well, and it was windy, too.

“We had quite a few guests who were really surprised at getting to experience snow in the middle of the spring. So they were really happy with that.”

Mr Dhakal said Cradle Mountain Lodge had suffered multiple booking cancellations as a result of Tasmania’s borders being closed to New South Wales and Victoria, but tourists from Queensland and South Australia were still flocking to the site.

Hobart recorded a maximum temperature of 13C on Sunday.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Belinda House said southwesterly to southerly winds brought a cold front across Tasmania, with showers in most parts of the state throughout the day.

“It’s going to clear away on Monday fairly rapidly,” she said.

“We’re going to see the winds turn around to south to southeasterly.

“Come evening time Monday, there won’t be very much shower activity left at all.”

Ms House said frosty conditions were expected on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
