FORMER My Kitchen Rules contestants James and Melanie Maddock may have had a challenging time on the hit TV show, but they are now using their high profile to support their community.
The couple kicked off the Tasmanian leg of a national initiative to make eating a little less daunting for those undergoing treatment for blood cancer by cooking a meal for patients undergoing chemotherapy at the Royal Hobart Hospital, .
Led by the Leukaemia Foundation, Cooking for Chemo provides important support and information for patients who face dietary challenges such as a lack of energy, nausea and loss of appetite.
“I have lost uncles and unts to cancer ... not many people can say they haven’t had an experience with the disease,” Mrs Maddock said.
The couple presented a feast of soup, lamb chops and apple crumble to a group of 30 patients.
The Maddocks are strong advocates for cancer research and support and have participated in events such as The World’s Greatest Shave.
The next Cooking for Chemo workshop will be hosted by ex-MasterChef contestant Ben Milbourne, and will take place in the North of the state later in the year.
