Former TSL coach in court

A former Tasmanian State League coach has pleaded not guilty to an assault charge in a Hobart court.

Former Lauderdale Football Club coach Clinton John Brown, 42, of Mornington appeared in the Hobart Magistrates Court before Magistrate Chris Webster on Monday morning.

He pleaded not guilty to one count of common assault and the case was adjourned until a later date.

In March, only four months after replacing Darren Winter as senior coach at Lauderdale, the TSL Bombers revealed Mr Brown was on a “break”.

Club president Julie Kay said at the time he was “taking a break for a few weeks to deal with some personal matters”.

COVID infringement notice

A 45-year-old Hobart man has copped a $774 fine for failing to follow directions of the Director of Public Health after flying home from Melbourne.

Tasmania Police say the man, who arrived in Tasmania from Melbourne on April 19, had allegedly refused to complete required E-Travel documentation, provided a false details to Biosecurity staff, and refused to wear a mask within the Hobart International Airport precinct.

Police urge anyone with concerns regarding non-compliance of current public health directions to contact the COVID-19 Hotline on 1800 671 738.

Police investigate St Leonards incident

Police are investigating a firearm incident on a private property at Killafaddy Road, St Leonards on Sunday night.

At 9.30pm, two male offenders in a late model dark dual cab utility were trespassing when a single shot from a firearm was discharged into the air.

Police say no one was injured and no members of the public were placed at risk.

Police urge anyone with information in relation to any firearm incidents to come forward by phoning Tasmania Police 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.

Two charged for drink driving

Police yesterday charged two drivers with mid-range drink driving in the Bridgewater area.

A 63-year-old man was charged with mid-range drink driving following a crash at Bagdad. He returned a breath alcohol reading of 0.141.

Police say he was subsequently charged with exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit and driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor. He was detained for court.

A 28-year-old provisional licence holder was charged with a breath alcohol reading of 0.132 and was automatically disqualified from driving for a period of 12 months.

“It is disappointing to still see some drivers making the decision to place other people’s lives at risk by driving after consuming alcohol,” Acting Sergeant Petra Schnierer said.

Missing teenager found

UPDATE: 14-year-old Madison Williams has been located safe and well in the Burnie area.

Police are seeking public assistance to locate 14-year old Madison Williams, of Mildura, Victoria.

Madison has been listed as a missing person by her family and Victoria Police believe she may be currently in the Burnie area.

Anyone who has seen Madison or knows where she might be, is asked to call Acting Sergeant Thomas Moir from Launceston Police on 131 444.

Bridgewater operation

7.37am Monday:

Tasmania Police have advised there is a controlled search being conducted in the Bridgewater area, there is no need for concerns but members of the public will see an increased police presence.
