After two years in the top job, City of Hobart CEO Kelly Grigsby has resigned and is set to leave Tasmania after accepting a role in Melbourne.

Ms Grigsby will take on the role of CEO at the Municipal Association of Victoria in late July.

Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said Ms Grigsby had been a strong leader.

“Kelly has brought a passion for good strategic planning that has seen the City thinking in a more evidence-based and innovative way about preparing Hobart for change and growth,” Ms Reynolds said.

“She’s also taken leadership in advancing many innovative urban solutions, like the work she has done to secure federal funding for ferries.”

An interim replacement for Ms Grigsby has not yet been announced.

“I’m confident that the City’s Executive Leadership Team will continue this great work after Kelly leaves,” Ms Reynolds said.

“I will be working with Kelly to manage a smooth transition to an interim CEO to ensure continuity, particularly considering the uncertainty around potential local government reforms.”

Just a few months into the role of CEO, Ms Grigsby initiated a major shake-up of the council’s organisational structure, to meet the growing needs of the city.

Ms Grigsby has also faced criticism during her time, after she sent an email to elected members informing them they could be in breach of the code of conduct for speaking out against the council.
