A HEARTBREAKING picture of an injured little wombat who lost his mum has been shared by Tasmania’s Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary.

The tiny wombat joey was lucky to survive after his mum was sadly hit by a car and killed.

The cute pinky wombat was partially flung out of his mother’s pouch from the impact, a common occurrence with vehicle incidents, a post on Bonorong’s Facebook page said.

The little joey suffered abrasions and cuts to his head during the accident.

Vets at Bonorong’s wildlife hospital treated the baby wombat on Friday and said luckily he didn’t have any fractures or major injuries.

He will now be nursed by an experienced wildlife carer.
