A 28-year-old Hobart bushwalker had died after falling at Frenchmans Cap on Tasmania’s West Coast.
The man was last seen on Wednesday morning when he was starting the final mountain ascent and told other walkers that he intended to walk to the summit and return to Lake Vera that day.
The alarm was raised on Friday when he did not return to his camping site.
A search began for the man on Friday night and on Saturday afternoon searchers from Ambulance Tasmania and the State Emergency Service Search and Rescue Team located the man’s body off the summit track.
Police thanked everyone in the search and the walkers who alerted police about their concerns when the man did not return to camp as planned.
A police spokesman said their concern for a fellow walker ensured searchers were able to quickly deploy to the scene.
