Bec White welcomes little baby boy Hudson

Former Labor leader Rebecca White has given birth to her second child – Hudson Rupert Dann – just one day after sitting in state parliament.

JUST one day after sitting in state parliament, former Labor leader Rebecca White has given birth to her second child – a boy.

Hudson Rupert Dann was born at 39 weeks by caesarean section on Friday morning.

He weighed in at 3.08kg and is 49cm.

In a brief message to the Sunday Tasmanian, Ms White said “all doing well”.

In a statement last week she said she would be taking parental leave from Friday and would be returning on August 16.

“My office in Sorell will remain open to assist constituents, community groups and the people of Lyons,” Ms White said.

Ms White stepped down as Labor leader two weeks after the state election in May.

After a rocky start, she campaigned strongly and worked long hours every day of the five-week election campaign.

The couple’s daughter Mia was nearly four months old when Ms White took on the Labor leadership in March 2017.

When she stood down as leader, she stressed she was not doing so because of her pregnancy.

“When I took on the leadership in 2017, (husband) Rod and my daughter Mia was just shy of four months old and at no time did my age or gender, or our young family, impact the decision on whether I should be leader,” Ms White said at the time.

“I think that’s testament to the culture of the Labor Party.

“I want young girls and women everywhere to know that they can achieve anything and they should walk through doors when they are open or kick them down if they have to.”

Ms White said she had “mixed emotions”, but was grateful for the support she had received from the Labor Party and the Tasmanian community.
