Police have confirmed a man has died after he was hit by a truck on the Bass Highway at Burnie.

Tasmania Police remain at the scene of the fatal crash where the pedestrian was struck by a truck around 1.45pm at the corner of Wilson St and the Bass Highway.

“Sadly, the male pedestrian died at the scene,” a spokesperson said.

He is understood to be a Wynyard man aged in his 70s.

“The road remains blocked, and motorists are advised to avoid the area and obey diversions in place on Bass Highway, Wilson Street and Labrooke Street.”

Investigations into the cause of the crash that involved a fully laden log truck is now being investigated.

The log truck driver suffered shock and is receiving treatment at the North West Regional Hospital.
