Olympic superstar Ariarne Titmus will spearhead a new tourism campaign that encourages Tasmanians to spend summer in their own state.
The swimming gold-medallist’s recent visit to the North, North East and East Coast will feature as part of Tourism Tasmania’s renewed push for more locals to see the most of the island.
The campaign will appear across Tasmania from today until March 2025, coinciding with Tourism Tasmania’s Come Down For Air interstate campaign which is running throughout New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia until March 2025.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier, Simon Behrakis, said the tourism and hospitality industry was vital to Tasmania and our regional communities, with one in eight Tasmanian jobs supported by tourism.
“On the East Coast this is even greater, with one in two jobs directly and indirectly employed in tourism related jobs, the highest in Australia,” Mr Behrakis said.
Tasmanians play an important role in our visitor economy, contributing about $1.9bn each year, and making up 25 per cent of all visitor nights.
Tourism Tasmania CEO Sarah Clark said we were lucky enough to live in one of the most incredible places in the world.
“From camping right next to the beach, staying in one of the world’s best hotels, dining at Australia’s best restaurant, grabbing fish and chips at Australia’s best seafood restaurant or mountain biking, swimming, hiking and golfing in some of the world’s best locations, you really can do it all in Tasmania,” Ms Clark said.
