FIRE and police officers are at the scene of blaze in another of the old wards at the former Willow Court Centre in New Norfolk.

An apparently deliberately lit fire in a ground-floor room of the former Esperance House has been contained by the New Norfolk Fire Brigade after burning for nearly an hour.

Firefighters had to dismantle a collapsed air-conditioning vent to gain access to the room after unsuccessfully attacking the fire from outside the building.

The two-storey 1930s building is next door to the site of another that was completely destroyed in an arson attack two years ago.

Reported about 7.30pm, tonight’s fire is in one of three buildings being converted into apartments by property developer Tony Ellis.
