The Brighton Show is back and ready to celebrate its roots by bringing “a little bit of country” to the Pontville Recreation Grounds this Sunday.
Brighton Agricultural Show Society Secretary Rosie Purdon hopes a bumper crowd will flood through the gates from 8.30am to catch a glimpse of rural life.
“We are close to the city, but we really do have a lot of the country feel,” Ms Purdon said.
“We try to focus on offering all of the favourites from years past, like wood chopping and the baby show, and we really want people to be able to soak up the sights, sounds, and smells of the rural life.”
Ms Purdon said the show offers something for everyone, from food and beverages to children’s entertainment to a variety of animal displays and competitions.
“We do a huge animal section so that the kids can come and meet the animals and know what goes on the farm, and we have a big, free children’s entertainment area, a host of vintage buses, a boxing display, and people can explore a variety of trucks from classics to custom trucks, and everything in between,” she said.
“There really is something for everyone; it offers a unique hands-on learning experience for people of all age groups with free entertainment for the whole family to enjoy, as well as animals, amusement rides, and sideshow alley.”
Ms Purdon said the show, which is among one of the oldest local shows in Tasmania, offers an inexpensive day out for the family.
“We know people don’t have a lot of disposable income nowadays, so we have tried to make it as affordable as possible,” Ms Purdon said.
“We try to incorporate enough entertainment and free entertainment so it’s not costing an arm and a leg to come to the show, and we put on a lot of free entertainment.”
Tickets can be purchased at the gate and online, with a family pass for two adults and three children costing $30, an adult pass $10, a child pass (aged 6-16 years) $5, and kids under six go free.
