PARAMEDICS on their way to a medical emergency were involved in a crash in the Burnie CBD on Thursday afternoon.

The ambulance was under lights and sirens when a car allegedly failed to give way and hit the emergency vehicle on the Bass Highway at the Wilson Street intersection about 4.10pm.

Tasmania Police said a white Holden ute had entered the intersection on a green light but failed to give way to the ambulance.

The collision caused the ute to roll onto the driver’s side and stop on the southern side of the highway.

The driver was transported to the North West Regional Hospital and later released.

The two paramedics riding in the ambulance were given first aid treatment at the scene.
