A motorcyclist has died in a crash on East Tamar Highway in Launceston
Police, ambulance and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal motorcycle crash on a Tasmanian highway on Friday evening.
Police are investigating a late night fatal in Launceston after a motorcyclist was found dead on the East Tamar Highway on Friday.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 11:30 after members of the public found the rider deceased.
“Two members of the public have driven across the remains of a motorcycle rider found deceased on the East Tamar Highway near Rocherlea,” Tasmania Police Insp. Darren Hopkins said.
“This was a 26 year old man from Youngtown.”
“It appears the rider was riding north on the East Tamar Highway and has at some point collided with the fencing
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
“Last night police attended along with members of the crash investigations services, forensic services,” Mr Hopkins said.
“At this stage, we’ll be looking at the factors of inattention, speed, alcohol and drugs.”
Mr Hopkins said no one saw the crash, but those who discovered the remains have been left shaken.
“It was a fairly horrific scene,” Mr Hopkins said.
“Two members of the public are traumatised by what they saw.”
Mr Hopkins said the drivers needed to be vigilant.
“Slow down, drive to the conditions, wear a seatbelt, don’t be distracted and if you’re tried, rest,” he said.
