THE federal government is hosting jobs fairs in Hobart and Devonport, connecting those seeking work with local job opportunities.

Employment Minister Stuart Robert said the fairs would promote a range of employment opportunities for Tasmanians looking to get into work.

“As we see COVID-19 restrictions ease, the Morrison government is committed to connecting Tasmanians with businesses looking to hire,” Mr Robert said.

The jobs fairs provide an opportunity for local businesses and jobseekers to speak with each other face-to-face.

“We want as many Tasmanian jobseekers as possible to upskill and re-skill, using solutions developed within their local communities, and this is what the jobs fairs we are holding in Hobart and Devonport are all about,” he said.

Tasmanian senator Jonathon Duniam said the two jobs fairs provided an opportunity to promote the hundreds of local jobs available right now.

“Tasmania’s industries were hit hard by the pandemic, but they are resilient and we will do whatever we can to help them bounce back,” he said.

More than 420 jobs including 39 apprenticeships and traineeships will be on offer at the Hobart event, and 540 jobs on offer in Devonport.

Assistant Minister for Youth and Employment Services Luke Howarth said workshops by business and industry professionals will help people get job-ready and secure their next role.

They will help with writing resumes, interviews and job search techniques.

Among the exhibitors are TasTAFE, TasFoods, Sustainable Timber Tasmania and Tasmania Police.

“The jobs fairs in Hobart and Devonport are a must for those who want to connect with businesses hiring across a wide range of industries,” Mr Howarth said.

More than 46,000 people have attended these events across the country since July 2018.

The Hobart jobs fair at Princes Wharf No 1 will be held in two sessions today — Tuesday, April 13. Register here.
