From the outside, this multistorey brick building across the road from Harvey Norman looks unassuming — but step inside, and you’ll see why it’s Hobart’s most expensive rental.

Number 220 Murray Street in Hobart was leased in less than 12 hours after it hit the market on Tuesday, with agent Dani Shields of Harrison Agents calling it “an absolutely incredible property”.

Its listing says “no expense has been spared” inside the fully furnished four-bedroom, four-bathroom home and “truly gives meaning to the saying ‘more than meets the eye’”.

The asking price was $1400 a week for a six-month lease — or $1700 a week for a three-month stay at the property formerly ‘Electrical House’ supply store.

Inside the home features three storey-high ceilings, exposed brick features and polished floorboards, with a wall-mounted control panel operating most technology throughout the home including heating.

Upstairs in the main bedroom suite area, the open plan features a king bed with motorised TV and a bridge-style walkway through to the impressive ensuite.

The agents say a focal point of the open plan living area is the large iron chandelier above the circular custom dining table, “which can be positioned at either level with use of the motorised winch”.

The huge kitchen features motorised cupboards and drawers, a heating drawer, microwave oven, integrated fridge/freezers, dishwasher and granite bench tops.

Upstairs is a fifth bedroom or second living area, overlooking the grand living area through the arched window and accessing the balcony that includes an outdoor kitchen/BBQ.

Agent Dani Shields was over the moon to see the property snapped up so quickly.

“We were very fortunate to work with the client on such a magnificent home ... it was certainly popular and well received by the market,” she said.

“The property was leased within 12 hours of going live which speaks volumes about the demand for quality homes in sought-after locations.”

The Murray St abode is Hobart’s most expensive rental on the market, but it’s just shy of the most exxy in Tassie: That title goes to number 12 Church Street in Stanley.

A former Airbnb property, the furnished northwest gem is for rent for $1500 a week

The three-bedroom property also features a Swedish timber log-burning sauna and an eight-person spa in the gardens.

There are plenty of places across Tasmania where it can cost a bomb to rent a big home, but an eyebrow-raising property has snatched the crown from the usual suspects.

A two-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Tassie’s north has been listed for rent for $1440 a week.

Or, it was quite possibly a slip of the finger on the keyboard when the agents wrote the listing. You be the judge.
