Steven ‘Pricey’ Price announced as host of Queens Garden Concert for Australian Festival of Chamber Music coming to Townsville

Get your picnic chairs, rugs, and snacks ready for an afternoon of sunshine and music, with the free Queens Garden Concert to be held as part of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music.

Townsville icon and radio legend- Steve ‘Pricey’ Price- has been announced to host the much-loved free event to be held at Queens Gardens on July 28, starting at 4pm.

Pricey said there is “no better stage than the Queens Gardens.”

“I’ve loved this wonderful festival from the first note all those years ago,” he said.

“Our city in the sun is blessed to host it. The glorious sounds of the resident kookaburras and the afternoon breeze through the leaves of the mighty mango tree will join our festival musicians for this free concert.”

Festival executive director Ricardo Peach said they ‘couldn’t be more excited’ to have Pricey play the role of host.

“With Pricey as our host, our Queens Gardens Concert will be even more entertaining. He is a great friend of the AFCM and has supported so many of our events,” he said.

Cafe and bar facilities will also be on-site, with organisers noting BYO alcohol is not permitted.

This year’s event features the AFCM Artistic Director Jack Liebeck on violin along with Katie Yap on viola, Queensland Symphony Orchestra Chief Conductor Umberto Clerici on cello, Kees Boersma on double bass, Jackie Newcombe on bassoon, Julian Bliss on clarinet, Ben Jacks on French horn, Benjamin Roskams on viola, Anna Rabinowicz on viola and the Barrier Reef Orchestra under the direction of conductor Theodore Kuchar.

The music program will feature works from Beethoven, Bernstein, John Williams and Australia’s Elena Kats-Chernin.

Gates open at 3pm, with the concert kicking off at 4pm. Entry is free.
