Woman who lured Tinder date to be bashed reveals double family tragedy
A woman who lured her ex-Tinder date to a house where he was bashed and robbed has revealed the tragic family deaths that rocked her life.
A thug who lured her Tinder lover to a house where he was bashed by another man lost her stepfather and child’s father in horror crashes in the same year, a court has heard.
Nikita Anne-Marie Semmens, 33, left her victim terrified after he arrived at the house where another man, Aaron Gregory McCarthy was waiting.
During McCarthy’s trial in September, the District Court heard the victim first met Semmens at school before matching with her on Tinder years later in 2022.
They dated for a few months before breaking up.
The court heard Semmens then messaged the victim in early 2023 and suggested taking him out to dinner.
He went to her house in Salisbury Plain on March 29, 2023 where McCarthy was waiting and told him he couldn’t leave unless he paid a fee.
The court heard the victim handed over $200, before Semmens also asked for the victim’s phone, which he handed to McCarthy.
The trio then went upstairs to the bathroom where Semmens allegedly said: “I’ll show you when I like someone” before performing oral sex on McCarthy in front of the victim.
The victim was eventually able to leave.
A jury found McCarthy guilty of theft but acquitted him of false imprisonment and robbery.
Judge Joana Fuller convicted him with no further penalty, due to the time he had spent in custody.
Semmens, of Adelaide, pleaded guilty to false imprisonment, theft and assault.
The court heard messages exchanged between her and McCarthy before the offending included Semmens saying: Oi when you get here, full intimidate … I can’t stand c***s like that”.
During sentencing submissions on Thursday, Adam Richards, for Semmens, told the court his client’s stepfather was killed in a car accident in 2023.
The court heard the father of Semmens’s first child was then also tragically killed by a hit-run driver in a different incident that same year.
“The general theme of chaos in her life is consistent over time,” Mr Richards said.
Mr Richards said Semmens was motivated to re-engage with her children once released from custody and participate in drug rehabilitation programs.
“She’s committed to a law abiding lifestyle, she’s willing to do what it takes to make amends for what she did wrong,” he said.
Semmens will be sentenced next month.
