Who’s who in Premier Peter Malinauskas’ new-look cabinet

Premier Peter Malinauskas has unveiled a new-look cabinet line-up – but who were the big winners and losers? See the full list here.

Housing Minister Nick Champion and newcomer Police Minister Dan Cregan have emerged the big winners in Premier Peter Malinauskas’ first cabinet reshuffle.

Mr Champion’s portfolio responsibilities have been significantly expanded to reflect the government focus on addressing the state’s housing crisis.

He will devote his entire attention to the task after his other portfolio, trade and investment, was offloaded to former police minister Joe Szakacs.

Mr Szakacs on Monday admitted it was “safe to say he wasn’t expecting the premier’s call” regarding the change to his position, and he was “sad to be no longer working with our first responders”.

He is considered to be one of the losers of the reshuffle, along with Human Services Minister Nat Cook who passed responsibility for Housing SA to Mr Champion.

Deputy Premier Susan Close gave up oversight of SA Water – also to Mr Champion – and handed the defence and space industries portfolio to Treasurer Stephen Mullighan.

She has assumed the newly-created position of Workforce and Population Strategy Minister.

The reshuffle was triggered by the resignation of minister Geoff Brock, who last week bowed out for health reasons.
