Adelaide private school reveals revamped uniform

Walford Anglican School for Girls, in Hyde Park, has introduced a revamped uniform for the first time in more than four decades.

The seasonal uniform is out for Walford students in favour of items they can wear all year round.

It has also introduced a new light blue blazer, cardigan and jumper.

Year 6 student Phoebe Williams said the pale blue colours of the new uniform are “really pretty” and is most looking forward to wearing the redesigned PE gear.

“The fabrics are so much softer and more comfortable,” Phoebe, 10, said.

Fellow student Amelia George, in Year 4, said the new dresses are “comfier than the old ones”.

“I’m happy that there is no summer or winter uniform anymore and that we can choose what is comfortable for us to wear when we want to wear it,” the eight-year-old said.

It comes after a community survey in 2023 revealed more than 70 per cent of respondents thought the Walford uniform needed a review.

Principal Dr Deborah Netolicky said Walford is “the first independent girls’ school in South Australia to introduce a versatile, personalisable, all seasons wardrobe”.

“It will serve our boys and girls in the ELC, and our girls and young women from Reception to Year 12, for generations to come,” Dr Netolicky said.

Students will be able to wear the new uniform from 2025.
