International airline VietJet Air is adding a new route to Adelaide from Ho Chi Minh City, with the first flight taking off next month.

VietJet Air is the first airline to offer services from Vietnam to Australia’s five largest cities.

The low-cost airline’s new one-stop route services from Ho Chi Minh City to Adelaide will provide five return flights per week with the first flight set to land in Adelaide on November 21.

Services taking off from Ho Chi Minh are scheduled for Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Operating on local times, each flight leaves at 6:35am, arriving in Adelaide Airport at 9:10pm – with a stop over in Perth.

While the return flights – also operating on local times – depart from Adelaide Airport at 7:25am and arrive at Ho Chi Minh City at 3.40pm – again with a Perth stopover.

Return flights have a slightly different schedule with services offered on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays (local times).

To celebrate the launch of its new service, VietJet is running a sale from Ho Chi Minh City to Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane – closing on October 10.

Vice President of Commercial VietJet Mr Jay L Lingeswara said the “new routes to Perth and Adelaide” would “offer passengers unparalleled access to (their) exceptional flying experiences.”

Vietjet’s pre-existing routes connecting Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane respectively with Ho Chi Minh City have created more favourable conditions than ever for the people and tourists of the two countries,” Mr Lingeswara said.

Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison added to Mr Lingeswara’s sentiments by saying the new route would provide “greater access into Asia.”

“The South Australian Tourism Commission and Adelaide Airport have been working hard behind the scenes to secure more airlines, and to reinstate flights that link South Australia with its key tourism markets.

“We know that Vietnam has a strong connection with South Australia, both through tourism and trade, (and) through family and friends.

The launch of the new services will see VietJet Air becoming the first Vietnamese airline to include Adelaide as a regular destination – adding to the international airlines that are now operating 38 non-stop flights into Adelaide every week.

With a 37 per cent increase of international students over the past year, Vietnam is the fourth largest cohort of international enrolments in our state.

Minister for Trade and Investment Nick Champion said VietJet flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Adelaide could “unlock enormous benefit across trade and tourism for Vietnam” and our state.

“Vietnam’s rapid growth continues to place it at the fore of our state’s opportunities in

South-East Asia,” Mr Champion said.

“We know that international flights decrease the cost of trade while opening the door

to South Australian produce to enter an emerging and important market in our region.”
