Sturt Hwy closed after truck, cars crash near Blanchetown

There have been two serious crashes in South Australia’s Riverland overnight – one involving a truck and two cars and the other between a motorbike and a ute.

Motorists have been urged to avoid one of the state’s busiest highways in the Riverland after crash involving a truck and two cars.

Emergency services were called to the serious crash on the Sturt Hwy near Blanchetown in the state’s Riverland region on Thursday evening.

Police said they were notified of the crash, near Paisley Rd, just after 5.30pm.

The highway was closed with eastbound heavy and light vehicles diverted via Hunter Rd to Swan Reach and westbound light vehicles diverted via Murbko Rd to Morgan with heavy vehicles diverted via Stott Hwy to Waikerie.

Major Crash Investigators attended the scene.

Heavy vehicles, heading westbound, should be aware that they may need to park up, police said, as they urged motorists to avoid the area.

Meanwhile, emergency services were also responding to a serious crash at Renmark West.

Crews were called to the scene just about 5pm with reported a motorbike had crashed into a Toyota HiLux on Ral Ral Ave.

Ral Ral Ave is currently closed at Tapalin St.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area.
