The Para Hills woman charged with murdering and defiling the body of an Aldinga Beach mother who was found dead after a house fire can be revealed as the victim’s ex-wife.

SA Police Detective Superintendent Des Bray on Thursday afternoon revealed police had made a second arrest over the death of Krystal Marshall, 38, in October.

He said an anonymous report to Crime Stoppers on October 22 last year provided pivotal information about the circumstances, and led to the arrest of the 29-year-old Para Hills woman.

The Advertiser understands the accused is Krystal’s ex-wife Anastasia Marshall, who is due to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court early on Friday charged with one count each of murder, defiling human remains and arson.

“Every murder is terrible, but this has the added dimension of the victim and the house being set on fire,” Detective Superintendent Bray said.

“We believe that Krystal was most likely killed on the 19th (of October, 2023), and the house set on fire the following day.”

Emergency services were called to a home on Barracoota Crescent in Aldinga Beach in October last year after a neighbour reported seeing smoke coming from the roof.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze and when they checked the home, they found Krystal’s body.

Fire investigators attended the scene to determine the cause of the blaze and following the investigation, Southern District Detectives arrested a 48-year-old man at the same address and charged him with murder.

“The allegation will be that together those two people, and those two people alone, are responsible for the death of Krystal. The woman has been refused bail and is currently in the City Watch House,” Superintendent Bray said.

Days after the incident, Anastasia was seen at the home, telling reporters Krystal’s death was “sad”.

Superintendent Bray said police were hoping to hear again from a person who contaced Crime Stoppers with an online report at 5.25pm on Sunday, October 22, 2023.

“That person conveyed specific knowledge in respect to the murder and who might be responsible. It’s very important to the investigation that that person get in touch and ask to speak to Major Crime,” he said.

“There are also two vehicles that have emerged of interest, and their relevance to the case is not clear at this stage, but they were in the area on the 19th and 20th (of October) and were captured on CCTV.

“One we’ve been able to identify as a blue Holden Astra. We really want to identify the driver of that vehicle.

“There is also a white delivery van and that van stopped outside the home at about the time smoke started emerging. The driver got out of the car and appeared to watch the goings on for a little while before getting in and driving away.

“That person was an adult male, with an orange turban, full facial hair, a beard, high-vis vest and dark green trousers. We encourage that person to contact us.

He said both people charged over Ms Marshall’s death are known to each other.

Following her death, loved ones of Ms Marshall created a Go Fund Me page to support her two children and family left behind.

“Krystal wasn’t just Krystal she was a daughter, a mum, a wife, a sister, an aunty, a friend or a neighbour and touched the hearts of many who knew her,” a friend wrote on the fundraiser site.

“Unfortunately Krystal leaves behind two beautiful daughters … who are still coming to terms with the loss of their mum.”
