The son of an AFL great has dazzled a local football league, kicking an incredible 20 goals, key to the team’s win by 267 points.
Byron Pickett Jr, son of former North Melbourne and Port Adelaide premiership player Byron Pickett, kicked the massive number in Saturday’s Western United Football Club game against Thevenard Football Club on the Eyre Peninsula.
Pickett Jnr’s dad also started his footy career on the Eyre Peninsula, moving to Port Lincoln at a young age and joining up with the Mallee Park football team. His talent later earned him a spot on Port Adelaide’s SANFL junior side.
Starting his season with two matches for Mallee Park in the Port Lincoln Football League, Pickett Jnr moved across to Western United’s A grade team in May.
Now in the Western Eyre Football League, the young gun had built his confidence by the second game under a new team, kicking eight goals.
In round eight of the season, Pickett Jnr’s fourth game for Western United, he kicked 10 goals, round nine it was 14 goals against Ceduna Blues, and in Saturday’s Indigenous Round he hit the magic 20.
Pickett Jnr celebrated the achievement on social media, saying it was a “special round to be a part of”, and “#historymade”.
The rising footy star recently appeared in the country champs line-up for the Eyre Peninsula.
