Richard Vinall, of Hackham, named as man bitten by shark at Port Noarlunga

The man who was attacked by a shark at Port Noarlunga on Thursday has been identified as an avid beachgoer, who was taking his morning swim.

A swimmer who was attacked by a shark at Port Noarlunga on Thursday, has been identified as Richard Vinall.

Mr Vinall, aged in his 60s and from Hackham, was taking his regular morning swim near the jetty when bitten on the leg, just before 10am.

He is now in a critical – but stable – condition at Flinders Medical Centre where he is being treated for injuries to his thigh.

One of the man’s neighbours, who asked for his name not to be published, said Mr Vinall swam regularly and he was shocked by the news.

The neighbour said he was in a motorbike riding group with Mr Vinall, who was also a regular walker.

He said Mr Vinall liked a chat and was a “a good bloke and a nice guy”.
