A red-bellied black snake has decided to visit a Strathalbyn home and was caught making its way up the outside of a house hoping to enter for a drink.

A video shows the venomous reptile winding itself up the screen towards the top of the glass door.

Snake Catchers Adelaide took to social media to share the discovery, suggesting the snake was probably searching for water.

“With the drier conditions the creatures are also doing it hard,” the post said.

“This red-belly decided he would hang around the house in the shade and wait for happy hour to start and grab a drink.

Snake Catchers Adelaide said the snake was not stuck and was easily removed with little stress.

“(The snake was) politely asked to move on to the next drinking spot down the road.”

Snake Catchers Adelaide’s Rolly Burrell told The Advertiser while a bite from a red-belly could result in death, they were traditionally “more placid” than most snakes.

“The red-bellied black ranks way down the list so it’s not as dangerous as the eastern brown snake,” he said late last year.

“They won’t come out and chase you and bite you or anything like that, they’ll shy away from you.”
